Making the move from restaurants to catering, Chef Julian Alonzo adjusts to life at the booming Neuman’s Kitchen in New York

catering alonzoWhen Julian Alonzo got a call asking him if he was interested in being the executive chef of a catering company, he hung up on the headhunter. “I said, ‘Are you kidding me? Don’t waste my time,’” recalls Alonzo. Yet less than two years later, Alonzo is happily helming the kitchen at a large New York catering company that’s been on the scene for more than 30 years: Neuman’s Kitchen on the Lower East Side, which employs more than 100, including a cooking staff of about 25.

“It’s just one of those things that I never thought in my wildest dreams I would be doing,” says Alonzo. “You know, it’s just so funny how things change, because I’m actually having a very good time.”
